Qualifications and technical experience will always matter when businesses recruit new people. However, recent research highlighted by the BBC suggests that the soft skills employers seek are becoming increasingly important too ... Soft skills employers look for are becoming increasingly crucial in the modern workplace Communication, organisation, teamwork, and adaptability may be difficult to show on a certificate, but they can make a significant difference in how someone performs in the workplace. For small businesses in particular, an applicant's soft skills can be just as valuable as their technical abilities!When you work in a relatively small team, you need people who can communicate clearly, manage their time, solve problems and remain reasonably calm when something unexpected happens. Technical knowledge can often be developed through training, but those broader workplace skills can be harder to teach. The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) has been examining the skills likely to become increasingly important as technology changes the workplace.The highlighted skills include time management, communication, collaboration, creative thinking, and effective information processing. As technology and AI are expected to take over more routine tasks, these distinctly human abilities may become even more valuable.
