Employees Can Claim Working From Home Allowance

Employees forced to work from their own home due to COVID-19 are now able to claim the Government's Working from Home allowance for the new tax year ...

HMRC has now confirmed that the claim can be made for the 2021/22 tax year even if they worked from home for just one day because of the pandemic and its subsequent restrictions.

"It's worth up to £140 for taxpayers!"

It's a £6 a week allowance which is worth £60 for basic-rate taxpayers (taxed at 20%), £125 for higher-rate (40%) and £140 for additional rate taxpayers (45%).

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the working from home rules were quite limited, and employees could only claim for the actual amount of time they worked from home. Now, HMRC has relaxed the rules on who is eligible to claim.

I feel that this is a very welcome move from HMRC and will help employees with increased utility bills. It's very positive that the Government has recognised this issue and dealt with it quickly.

You can find more about this on HMRC's own website.
