Beware Of COVID-19 Vaccine Scams

There have been thousands of reports from the public about vaccine scam calls, emails and text messages supposedly coming from the NHS. They are obviously very dangerous ...

Links in emails and text messages should never be clicked as they could download malware to your PC or Smartphone or worse, ask for bank account or credit card details that'll be used to drain your finances.

"The NHS will never ask you to pay for vaccines; especially via an email or text message!"

So, what have Action Fraud recommended as the way to protect yourself? Well, in the United Kingdom, vaccines are only available via the NHS of either England, Northern Ireland, Wales or Scotland. This will be via your GP, a local vaccine centre or pharmacy. Vaccines are always free of charge.

Other things to know:

- If you got an email, check the address that was used. If it doesn't end with nhs.uk it's a scam
- The NHS will never ask you for your bank account or card details
- The NHS will never ask you for your PIN or banking passwords
- The NHS will never arrive unannounced at your home to administer the vaccine
- The NHS will never ask you to prove your identity by sending copies of personal documents such as your passport, driving licence, bills or payslips
- Your vaccination status can be obtained for free through the official NHS app, NHS website, or by calling the NHS on 119

If you ever receive a call you believe to be fraudulent, hang up immediately. If you are suspicious about an email you have received, you can report it by forwarding the email to report@phishing.gov.uk. Suspicious text messages can also be reported by forwarding them to 7726 (free of charge) and if someone knocks on your door unexpectedly claiming to be from the NHS then slam the door in their face and call the police.

And, as always, if you believe you are the victim of a fraud, please report this to Action Fraud as soon as possible by calling 0300 123 2040 or visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk.
