£750 Million Coronavirus Charity Funding Package Announced | Helping charities continue their amazing services ... | Posted by Roger Eddowes on 14/04/2020 @ 8:00AM Across the UK, frontline charities will benefit from a newly announced £750 million Coronavirus charity funding package to ensure they can continue to provide their amazing services during the Coronavirus outbreak ... The new Coronavirus charity funding package will support the good work of charities across the United Kingdom! copyright: wavebreakmediamicro / 123rf These charities include hospices, refuges and other charities supporting domestic abuse victims. There's £360 million direct from Government departments and an additional £370 million specifically for smaller charities which includes a grant to the National Lottery Community Fund.
"The Government will also match donations to the National Emergencies Trust being promoted during the BBC's Big Night fundraiser later in the month!"
There are many thousands of charities who provide vital services and these will benefit from direct cash grants, ensuring they can meet the increased demand lockdown is creating as well as helping them continue their day-to-day activities by supporting those most in need.
Organisations at the very heart of the community will also benefit. The National Lottery Community Fund is supporting those delivering food and essential medicines and providing financial advice to families.
This announcement is a positive move by the Government and adds to their support of businesses, including deferment of VAT, business rates grants, staff furloughing and self-employed support. While the lockdown stalls the country, the Government is trying to support as many of us as possible so that when it ends, the economy can hit the ground running.
In the immediate future, Citizens Advice will increase the number of staff offering advice and Government departments will work at pace to identify priority recipients with charities set to receive a share of the money in the coming weeks. There is also a new application system for the National Lottery Community Fund becoming operational soon.
I feel that this is a very positive move from the Government and one which charities across the UK will most definitely appreciate. Until next time ... ROGER EDDOWES Business Godparent
